This little blind baby was brought to the Mission by her parents who lived in a remote village where people are plagued with poverty and superstition. Overwhelmed with the care of their blind daughter and the prospects of her bleak future, the parents could not cope. Hearing of the care and education offered to blind children, they brought her to the Mission.
When Nirveli first came, she cried through the night for weeks. Her loving caregiver, the housemother to the blind girls in the Bougainvillea Flower Family, faithfully and patiently walked her, sang to her and comforted her. What a change now! Nirveli will jump from wherever she is when she hears her house-mothers voice to run to her and is very attached to her Bougainvillea sisters as well. She has gained strength, confidence, and security. But watch out anyone who thinks to pick her up unless she wants to be picked up! She has a mind of her own!
Nirveli’s house-mother is a gift to the Bougainvillea girls.
