Knit by God

Do you know you are special to God?

You are!

Sometimes when babies are born with special needs, we may think that perhaps God made a mistake. But God never makes mistakes; He is always perfect and good. All people are precious in His sight.

Psalm 139:13 & 14 says:

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

This story is about a special baby girl in India. She was born in 2011. She was born with a cleft palate. Her lip and the roof of her mouth were not fully formed and closed. Because of this, she could not suck milk and therefore was not getting nourishment and was always hungry. She cried with hunger all day and night. Her parents didn’t know what to do. They realized she probably would not live if they didn’t get help and so they brought her to the Mission, where they provide a Home and care for all kinds of children in India.

The medical staff loved this teeny-tiny baby. They worked hard to feed her through a special tube to her stomach and prayed her limp, way-too-thin body would gain weight and strength. Many residents and staff would come to the hospital to cuddle the sweet little baby, coo and smile at her, and pray over her. They nicknamed her Stuti* (Praise), praying her life would praise and honor the Lord Jesus.

Specialists at a hospital in a big city assured the Mission that surgery was available to correct her lip and mouth, but only when Stuti was strong enough and had gained more weight. Finally, the day came when the doctors said she was strong enough to have the first surgery to repair her lip.

Much prayer went up for Stuti and the doctors doing the surgery. Her weight dropped, but it was felt that once the stitches were removed from her lip, she would be better able to eat. Her cries would stop when her hunger was satisfied.

After the removal of her stitches, new efforts began to increase her ability to take in food and nourishment. When Stuti reached a stable weight of about 20 pounds the doctors performed the next surgery to close up the roof of her mouth.

One of the nurses, who also came to the Mission as a young child, has been especially drawn to Stuti. “When Stuti first arrived at the hospital,” she explains, “I saw the face of Jesus reflected in her face, and my heart warmed to this broken, little life.” This nurse helped take care of Stuti with the love and kindness that comes from the heart of Jesus.

Today Stuti is thriving. Although she’s smaller than other children her age she makes up for it in energy. Stuti is full of life, she enjoys the love and attention of staff and visitors.  Because she had a slow start, Stuti is behind in her development but being enrolled in the Special Needs School has helped her develop motor skills, strength, and even her speech has been developing.

Praise God who ‘knit’ Stuti according to His special creation pattern and has a wonderful plan for her life!
