Overcoming My Anger

This story is told by Anjali* about her experience before coming to the Mission and after. She is grateful for how you allowed her to be rescued!

I was born into a non-Christian family in India. My family was very poor and when I was only 4 years of age, my mother went with another man; leaving my father and I alone. My father was broken and started drinking every day. He was working as a laborer at that time. His anger was taken out on me and he began to abuse me. I was 6 years old when he became so cruel and mean. I was very lonely and started wandering here and there looking for food and protection. One day, my father’s owner saw me and shared my situation with his friend. It happened that he was a Pastor and he recommended me to stay in a girl’s hostel.

When I entered the hostel, I got the shock of my life. I had never had a nice blanket or a comfortable mattress before. They gave us nice clothes and good food and there were many people to love me and care for me. My days were very happy with the other girls. One day my father came to meet me at the hostel and he brought some small snacks. He was drunk when he came. I was excited to tell him all the good things I received but he molested me again. It was a great shock for me. It was trauma in my life. I started hitting others and became a troublemaker.

Then, one day, I ran away with my friend to a big city which is near the mission. By the grace of God and His love for me, the mission staff found me and took me home. It was not easy to look after me. I always had an emptiness in me, but one-day God changed my life. From that day on my life started changing slowly, and I have started overcoming my anger. I got the first number or highest mark in tailoring class and now I am leading the creative arts department at the Mission. I am grateful to God for this opportunity that He has given me. Thank you!
