FS: Welcome to Mukti, Ankita*!
Flat Sujata is a little girl who, like Flat Stanley, is as thin as a piece of paper because she got flattened by a box of mangoes. Flat Sujata moved to Mukti Mission where she loves her new life and all the friends she has made. These stories will help you understand what life is like for children at the Mission – children about the same age as YOU! We hope that you enjoy these stories of Flat Sujata and her friends so that you can pray for them every day. *Note: These stories are inspired by real-life stories from Mukti Mission.
“Why is everyone so sad-looking when they come to Mukti?” inquired Flat Sujata’s best friend, Sami. “Shouldn’t they be so happy about coming to such a wonderful home?”
“They don’t know how wonderful it is here, yet,” responded Flat Sujata.
The sad faces that enter Mukti’s gates daily are never easy to watch. The world of the poor and abandoned holds nothing but hopelessness.
“Did you see the new girl?” Flat Sujata asked.
“Yes. I think she is only three, and so sad. She must miss her mother.”
“Her name is Ankita*,” informed Flat Sujata knowingly. “Such was the case for 3-year-old Sonali and her mom. Living in poverty in”She came from the big city of Mumbai, where her mother could barely earn any money.”
“I heard her father drank way too much. We need to pray for him,” Sami responded soberly.
Ankita’s father began to hear voices and became increasingly paranoid about the outside world and even his family. The drinking took a terrible toll on his family. Ankita’s mother was barely able to handle the problems. She did not know where to turn.
“How did Ankita come here then?”
Flat Sujata paused a moment before responding. “Like many of us, our families hear about the Mission and it is their only hope. Ankita’s mother knew she had to rescue her daughter from such a bad life.”
“When she heard of the Ramabai Mukti Mission, she knew she must take her daughter there for her own safety and hope for a future. Although Sonali was only three, she already had been strongly impacted by her sad situation. When she became a part of Mukti’s”She is in the Frangipani Flower Family now, isn’t she?”
“Yes. They are wonderful sisters to her and she seems to smile more.”
“It takes a while, I remember when I first came to Mukti,” Sami mused.
“That is true,” Flat Sujata agreed. “It takes us all a while to adjust to living with lots of sisters, eating in a dining hall, going to youth group, and going to school…”
“Don’t remind me about school,” interrupted Sami. Both friends laughed.
“I know she will do well here at Mukti,” Sami noted.
“Yes, if we all do our part,” Flat Sujata agreed.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, we need to accept her, play with her, help her, and do all the things a sister would do,” Flat Sujata said. And when she gets a LIFEgiver Sponsor in America, they will pray for her too.”
“Oh, yes!” Sami exclaimed. “LIFEgivers are very important.”
“Ankita will do well if we all do our part. Just like you and me, Sami. We’ll adjust to life at Mukti, do well in school, learn about the love of Jesus, and learn to love our new sisters.”
“That reminds me of the Bible verse I heard last week,” Sami pondered. “Remember?”
“Which one?” Flat Sujata inquired.
“I think it was Psalm 10 verse 17. It went something like this. Lord you hear the desire of the troubled. You encourage and listen to their cry for help.”
“That’s right, now I remember. That describes what Jesus does for all of us here at Mukti Mission.”
