Abandoned, alone . . . . . .

Flat Sujata is a little girl who, like Flat Stanley, is as thin as a piece of paper because she got flattened by a box of mangoes. Flat Sujata moved to Mukti Mission where she loves her new life and all the friends she has made. These stories will help you understand what life is like for children at the Mission – children about the same age as YOU! “Did you hear about that little baby who was brought into the Mission last night?” Sami inquired excitedly.

“No,” responded her best friend Flat Sujata. “Tell me about her.”

“She doesn’t have a name.”

“How can she not have a name?” asked Flat Sujata.

“I don’t know. Maybe she can’t talk,” responded Sami.

“How old is she?”

“I don’t know,” admitted Sami.

“Well, I suppose if she is a baby, then she couldn’t talk,” mused Flat Sujata. “Sounds to me like we need to ask our housemother.” Sami nodded her agreement as the two girls raced back to their Flower Family Home.

“She is a baby,” explained their housemother later. “She arrived as a tiny, undernourished, and premature baby of one month.”

“One month!” exclaimed Sami disbelievingly.

“That explains why she couldn’t talk,” Flat Sujata agreed.

“Sadly, her mother abandoned her,” admitted their housemother. “The baby has a cleft lip and palate creating an inability to suck.”

“What’s a cleft lip?” inquired Flat Sujata.

“It’s when the lip has a split in it…”

“Oh, that must hurt,” declared Sami.

“It isn’t painful,” continued their housemother, “but it makes eating and speaking very difficult. The little baby was cared for by her father and grandmother, but it was just too difficult. They realized that the baby’s chance of survival was limited without help.”

“That is so sad,” Flat Sujata stated.

“It is,” admitted their housemother. “But God always has a plan to help. The baby is now here at Mukti and will get the help she will need to thrive.”

“So, is she going to be okay?” asked Flat Sujata.

“We’ll just have to pray that she is,” answered her housemother. “And just wait and see. But I am sure Jesus will hear our prayers.”

“Then let’s pray for the baby now.”

Their housemother and the two friends bowed heads and asked Jesus to help this new baby at Mukti Mission – a new sister to the two girls.
