Orchard Champion Story

 A New Home

My name is Peter and I belong to a Tribe from North East India. I live in a small village. I have been brought up by my uncle since my mother left me at the age of 10 months infant. I have never heard about my father and neither I am aware about whether he is dead or alive.

Living with my uncle was really tough, since he also was facing financial problem within his family. My uncle is a farmer with no proper income, so to meet the day’s need, I along with my uncle’s family members used to work in the field, and that was real struggle for me as a child. Growing up I did not have proper education and had little of basic needs.

Though my uncle had enrolled my name into a Government school, the teachers were irregular into their attendance, and their way of teaching was hard to follow. They would just come to the school to sign their attendance and get paid for it. School where we should have received the lesson for our education and for the standard moral living, we were snatched out of our rightful education.

My uncle heard about a Mukti Orchard Project Vazhaipoo from a woman named Ms. M. She told him that my life could improve there and that I could pursue my dreams and future would be bright. My uncle got me admitted into this Orchard Project.

My dream is to be an Army officer after I’m done with my education, so that I would be helpful for the society in some or the other way. And to find my dream come to the next step, the Orchard Project along with the help and support from Mukti Mission, are playing a huge roll. Here at Vazhaipoo I not only found a shelter but also good atmosphere of family bond, friends, an access to a good education in the English Medium School, and proper food to nourish my physical health.

At Vazhaipoo I found a motherly figure in Ms. K. who is caretaker and the teacher and Ms. P. who is a wonderful cook. They look after me just as their own son. I have found a new home.
