A Reason to be Thankful
“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.”-Psalm 107: 21
She stood at the front gate of Mukti Mission, pregnant and forsaken. With no place to call home, no family to take her in, and an overwhelming sense of abandonment and hopelessness.
Mukti was her salvation. The last resort. A place to begin life anew.
Her journey began in earnest at those gates. It was not an easy journey but one she was lovingly accompanied through with the help of the Mukti staff and her new sisters. Life brought many ups and downs even after entering the gates of the Mission, yet she stood firm, steadfast in a newfound faith. The calm she felt belied the difficulties and the past. But this was the present and her future. She remained calm, quiet, and unfazed.
On many occasions, Miriam expressed her thankfulness to her God and the care Mukti provided.
Unlike other elderly people, Miriam never complained. Her strong will and gratefulness to God drove everything she did. She determined to live as the Apostle Paul with nothing held back from her Savior.
When Miriam first came to Mukti, she served in the nursery and kothar (kitchen) as many of the women do. She demonstrated great skill in making beautiful quilts and was an accomplished seamstress. Miriam never complained; she didn’t see her situation as being laid aside but rather as an opportunity to serve.
Miriam lived until she was 100! Those who know her remember her as a good-natured and loving person. For the staff at Mukti, she was an encouragement day by day. Her thankfulness to the Lord for His presence in her life challenged many to greater thankfulness.
