Stepping into the Unknown

Transition. Fear. The unknown. We’ve all been there – and likely will be many times again.

Transition trauma loomed for the graduating girls of Mukti’s Manorama Memorial Girls’ High School. They were receiving their 10th-grade certificates, a huge milestone. Many composed poems and articles to show appreciation for their parents, teachers, and classmates. Many shared past experiences of their intimidation of stepping from primary school into high school. Looking back, with today’s perspective, it all seemed so out of proportion. Would the transition from high school to college one day seem the same? Perhaps; yet today it didn’t seem like it!

Yet, for those who know true hope, the future can be tackled bravely. Prayers were offered by various people. Encouraging words came from one of the keynote speakers who challenged the graduates.

“No more will you be termed ‘school girls’ but ‘college mates’.”

Although many anecdotes engendered peals of laughter, the closing thoughts brought soul-searching. The girls needed to trust God to keep themselves pure and spotless amid a wicked and perverse generation.

Lastly, the girls were encouraged to begin their next step with a clean slate. If any held grudges against parents, teachers, or friends, this was the time to forgive and reconcile, or the next chapter of their lives would be tainted by the last. Only Jesus could enable them to do this.

After a time of silence and reflection, cheers broke forth. Yes, this was the next step in the girls’ becoming salt and light in Indian society.
